ABOUT ME

Ellen Joy
Wife, Mother, Freelance Writer
Life has a way of getting away from us when we aren't looking, like the newsfeed we scroll by on social media or the last train home we missed by a second. We can't slow down or turn back time, but we can stop, reflect, breathe in deep and find joy and purpose even in the slipping sands of time.
While I sometimes like to ponder existential questions, I also like to write about fun stuff, like being a mum, food, culture, and cooking and the not so fun stuff like saving money, adapting to life in a different country or being a mum. (yes I said that twice)
I live in Brisbane, Australia, with my husband and two-year-old son. As an Indian immigrant in a western country, it gives me a different perspective on Australia, it also gives me a fresh look at Indian and Eastern culture. I love the fact that I get to meet and make friends with people of so many different countries where I am right now and the opportunity to I get to learn about different cultures... a study I find fascinating.
Faith and family mean everything to me and while time changes our roles and priorities and passions these two things keep me anchored to who I am.
Who am I?
I'm the girl who dreamt I could become anything I wanted in life, but could never decide what exactly that was... until I realised writing could actually be a career. An uncle of mine once asked me how I thought I'll ever become a writer if I had never written anything. What I didn't tell my uncle was that everything I had written was in a notebook hidden under my bed. I'm still a bit like that sometimes, so if you're surprised I write... well hey there you go!
